INS Anjadip ASW Shallow Water Craft

INS Anjadip is an Anti Submarine Warfare Shallow Water Craft built to strengthen the Indian Navy’s coastal defense network. Designed specifically for operations in littoral and shallow waters, the vessel focuses on detecting, tracking, and neutralizing enemy submarines operating near India’s coastline.

The ship is part of the eight vessel ASW SWC program intended to replace older Abhay class corvettes. Its mission profile includes anti submarine warfare, low intensity maritime operations, mine laying support, and coordinated coastal surveillance. Unlike larger frigates or destroyers, INS Anjadip is optimized for confined waters where submarine threats can exploit shallow depths and coastal clutter.

Manufacturer

INS Anjadip was constructed by Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers, Kolkata, one of India’s leading state owned naval shipyards. The platform reflects India’s push for indigenous naval construction under its domestic shipbuilding initiatives. GRSE has delivered multiple corvettes, patrol vessels, and amphibious ships to the Indian Navy.

Speed and Range

Powered by four diesel engines driving waterjets, INS Anjadip can reach speeds of approximately 25 knots. The waterjet configuration improves maneuverability in shallow waters and enhances survivability. The vessel has an operational range of around 1,800 nautical miles and an endurance of roughly 10 days, enabling sustained coastal patrols without frequent logistical support.

Armament and Systems

The ship is equipped with a 30 mm naval gun for surface threats and carries lightweight anti submarine torpedoes for underwater engagements. A hull mounted sonar system provides submarine detection capability, supported by surface search radar and an integrated electronic warfare suite. Torpedo decoys and chaff systems enhance survivability against incoming threats.

Cost/Price

While official figures are not publicly disclosed, vessels in the ASW SWC class are estimated to cost between 40 million and 50 million USD per unit, depending on final equipment configuration.

INS Anjadip represents a focused investment in shallow water submarine defense, a mission area increasingly relevant in contested coastal environments.
