Retirement Logic Engine 2026
The 2026 Retirement Landscape: US vs. UK
Navigating military retirement requires understanding the specific multipliers and inflation adjustments active for the current fiscal year.
United States (DoD/DFAS)
As of 2026, most service members fall under the Blended Retirement System (BRS) or the Legacy High-3.
- BRS: Utilizes a 2.0% multiplier per year of service.
- High-3: Uses a 2.5% multiplier for those grandfathered in.
- 2026 Update: Thrift Savings Plan (TSP) elective deferral limits have increased to $23,500, making matching contributions more vital than ever for BRS participants.
United Kingdom (MOD/Veterans UK)
The AFPS 15 is the standard for the British Armed Forces.
- Accrual: You earn 1/47th of your pensionable earnings each year.
- 2026 Revaluation: While in service, your pension pot increases by 4.8% (Average Weekly Earnings – AWE). Once in payment, it increases by 3.8% (Consumer Price Index – CPI).
- The 20/40 Rule: Early Departure Payments (EDP) are eligible after 20 years of service and reaching age 40.
How-to-Use Guide
To ensure you get an accurate “Tactical Estimate,” follow these steps:
Step 1: Define Your Service Entry
Input your Date of Initial Entry to Military Service (DIEMS). This determines if the calculator uses the 2.5% Legacy multiplier (US) or the CARE (Career Average) model (UK).
Step 2: Input Career Benchmarks
- For US Personnel: Enter your “High-3” average (the average of your highest 36 months of basic pay).
- For UK Personnel: Enter your annual pensionable earnings for the current year.
Step 3: Account for “Gray Area” or Deferred Status
If you are a Reservist (US) or have Preserved Benefits (UK), select the Deferred toggle.
- Note: US Reservists typically begin drawing pay at age 60, while UK AFPS 15 deferred pensions are tied to the State Pension Age (67/68).
Step 4: Execute Calculation
Click “Calculate Estimation” to see your monthly annuity, annual total, and lifetime value projection.
Disclaimer
Precision Note: This tool provides an estimate based on standard 2026 revaluation rates (3.8% CPI / 4.8% AWE). It does not account for taxes, SBP/AFPS survivor benefits, or disability offsets. For a legal audit of your specific file, US members should consult MyPay (DFAS) and UK members should request a Statement of Entitlement from Veterans UK.
