Boeing F-47A Sixth-Generation Stealth Fighter
The Boeing F-47A is a requested product listing designation for the U.S. Air Force’s developing F-47 sixth-generation stealth fighter. The aircraft is being developed under the Next Generation Air Dominance (NGAD) program to eventually replace the F-22 Raptor as America’s primary air superiority fighter. Designed for operations in heavily defended airspace, the F-47 is intended to combine advanced stealth, extended combat range, integrated sensors and networked warfare capabilities.
The U.S. Air Force officially announced the F-47 program on March 21, 2025, selecting Boeing to lead its Engineering and Manufacturing Development phase. The program also forms part of a broader family of systems that includes Collaborative Combat Aircraft (CCA) designed to operate alongside crewed fighters.
Manufacturer and Development
Developed by Boeing, the F-47 is intended to provide improved survivability and air dominance against advanced military threats. Its development builds on years of classified experimental aircraft research and digital engineering.
Speed and Range
According to publicly released Air Force information, the F-47 is expected to achieve speeds exceeding Mach 2 and a combat radius greater than 1,000 nautical miles. These capabilities are intended to support long-range missions without relying as heavily on aerial refueling. Exact operational range, service ceiling and flight performance remain undisclosed.
Technology and Armament
The aircraft is expected to incorporate advanced low-observable technology, next-generation radar, electronic warfare systems, sensor fusion and secure communications. Its architecture is intended to support coordination with autonomous combat aircraft. Internal weapons carriage is expected to help preserve stealth, although specific missiles, guns and payload capacity have not been officially confirmed.
Cost and Price
The F-47A has no separately published unit price. The U.S. Air Force has indicated that the F-47 program is intended to deliver an aircraft costing less than the F-22 Raptor. Actual production costs remain undisclosed.
The first F-47 flight is targeted for 2028, while operational service entry has not been officially established.
