Emad Missile: Iran Medium Range Ballistic Missile

The Emad missile is an Iranian medium range ballistic missile derived from the Shahab 3 family. It was publicly unveiled and flight tested in 2015 as part of Iran efforts to improve the accuracy and effectiveness of its longer range ballistic missile force. The road mobile system is designed for conventional strike missions against regional targets and represents an evolution of Iran ballistic missile technology. CSIS estimates the Emad range at approximately 1,700 km with a payload of about 750 kg.

The missile is notable for its reported maneuverable reentry vehicle and improved terminal guidance features compared with earlier Shahab 3 variants. Iranian officials have claimed significantly improved accuracy, although independent assessments caution that the real world accuracy of the system remains difficult to establish from publicly available evidence.
