SCALP Mk2 Next Generation Stealth Cruise Missile
The SCALP Mk2 is a next generation air launched cruise missile being developed to replace the current SCALP EG in French and allied service. Built for high value, heavily defended targets, it reflects lessons from recent conflicts where long range precision and survivability matter more than raw speed. The missile is designed to strike deep inside contested airspace while keeping launch aircraft well outside enemy air defenses.
Manufacturer
SCALP Mk2 is led by MBDA, the European missile group, under French Ministry of Armed Forces direction. The program is managed in cooperation with OCCAr and focuses on extending France’s deep strike capability well into the 2030s. MBDA is drawing on experience from SCALP EG and Storm Shadow while integrating new digital guidance and survivability features.
Speed and Range
SCALP Mk2 is expected to remain subsonic, prioritizing low observable flight and terrain hugging profiles over speed. Open sources indicate a planned range beyond 1,000 km, a major increase over the current SCALP. This allows launch from safe stand off distances against advanced air defense networks. The missile uses a turbojet engine optimized for fuel efficiency and low infrared signature.
Cost / Price
Official unit cost has not been released. Based on comparable Western long range cruise missiles, SCALP Mk2 is expected to cost several million dollars per round. Pricing will depend on production scale, export orders, and final configuration.
