GBU-75 JDAM-LR Smart Bomb

The GBU-75 is a newly designated U.S. precision-guided bomb based on the proven Joint Direct Attack Munition (JDAM) family. Unlike standard JDAM weapons that glide after release, the GBU-75 adds a compact turbojet engine and wing kit, turning a gravity bomb into a powered standoff strike weapon. This gives naval aircraft a much longer engagement range while keeping launch aircraft farther from enemy air defenses. Recent reports indicate the weapon demonstrated an approximate range of 200 nautical miles during U.S. Navy testing from an F/A-18F Super Hornet.

Manufacturer

The GBU-75 is developed by Boeing, which also produces the JDAM guidance kit family. Boeing integrated a Kratos TDI TJ85 turbojet engine, folding wing kit, and updated guidance components into the bomb. The weapon is aimed primarily at U.S. Navy carrier aviation, offering an affordable long-range strike option using existing JDAM architecture.

Speed and Range

Official speed figures have not been released publicly, but the turbojet-powered design gives the GBU-75 sustained powered flight beyond normal glide bomb distances. Its reported combat reach of around 200 nautical miles (370 km) greatly exceeds many legacy unguided bombs. Guidance is expected to rely on GPS / INS navigation, similar to standard JDAM systems, supporting all-weather precision strike capability.

GBU-75 JDAM-LR Smart Bomb Cost / Price

Exact unit pricing has not been publicly disclosed. However, analysts expect the GBU-75 to cost less than many cruise missiles because it uses an existing bomb body and JDAM-based architecture. This could make it an attractive option for high-volume naval strike missions where affordability matters.

No confirmed public price. Estimated cost would likely vary based on engine package, guidance kit, and production quantity.
