The Su 30SM2 is the latest evolution of Russia proven Su 30 family, designed to extend service life and improve combat performance against modern threats. Developed as a deep upgrade of the Su 30SM, the aircraft focuses on better sensors, stronger engines, and expanded weapons compatibility. It fills a key role in Russia air force and naval aviation as a long range multirole fighter.
The aircraft is built by Irkut Corporation, part of United Aircraft Corporation. It is designed for air superiority, deep strike, maritime attack, and escort missions. The Su 30SM2 bridges the gap between legacy fourth generation fighters and newer designs by adding modern avionics while keeping a proven airframe.
The Su 30SM2 is powered by two AL 41F one S engines, the same engine family used on the Su 35. These engines provide higher thrust, better fuel efficiency, and improved reliability. The jet can reach speeds above Mach two and has a long combat radius suitable for operations over large distances, including maritime patrol and air defense missions.
The upgraded radar and mission computer allow the aircraft to track multiple air and surface targets at once. It can carry a wide range of air to air missiles, precision guided bombs, and anti ship weapons. Thrust vectoring gives the Su 30SM2 strong maneuverability in close range combat.
