The Patria NEMO is a 120mm turreted mortar system built for fast, protected indirect fire support. Designed to operate from armored vehicles and naval craft, it combines mobility, automation, and precision in a compact turret. Unlike traditional towed mortars, NEMO allows crews to fire from under armor and relocate quickly, reducing exposure to counter battery threats.
Developed by Patria, the system originates from Finland and builds on the experience gained with the heavier AMOS twin barrel mortar. NEMO uses a single barrel design to reduce weight and cost while maintaining high firepower.
Patria, headquartered in Finland, is known for armored vehicles and advanced mortar solutions. NEMO has been integrated onto 6×6 and 8×8 armored vehicles, patrol boats, and fast attack craft. Export customers include the United Arab Emirates and other international operators, highlighting its appeal beyond Europe.
The 120mm mortar supports a wide range of NATO standard ammunition, including HE, smoke, illumination, and precision guided rounds. Maximum firing range reaches approximately 10 km with standard ammunition and up to 13 km with extended range rounds.
NEMO can deliver up to 10 rounds per minute in burst mode and sustain around 6 rounds per minute. It supports Multiple Rounds Simultaneous Impact, allowing several shells to hit a target at the same time.
When mounted on wheeled armored vehicles, top platform speeds typically range from 80 to 100 km per hour, with operational mobility of 400 to 700 km depending on the carrier vehicle.
A notable success story includes its deployment by the UAE in combat operations, where its rapid shoot and scoot capability proved valuable in desert environments.
Estimated unit cost varies by configuration and platform integration. Open source estimates place the system between USD 1.5 million and 3 million per turret, excluding the carrier vehicle.
