Borsuk IFV – Poland’s Next-Gen Amphibious Combat Vehicle

The Borsuk Infantry Fighting Vehicle (IFV) represents Poland’s most ambitious modernization effort since the end of the Cold War, engineered to replace the aging fleet of BMP-1 vehicles with a fully modern, NATO-ready combat platform. Developed by Huta Stalowa Wola (HSW), a subsidiary of the state-owned Polska Grupa Zbrojeniowa (PGZ), the Borsuk was designed from the ground up to provide mobility, survivability, and lethality tailored for Eastern European terrain and modern high-intensity warfare.

A Development Success Story

The Borsuk program faced skepticism early on—Poland had never mass-produced a modern tracked IFV. But after a decade of R&D, extensive amphibious trials, and successful gun/turret integration with the ZSSW-30 remote weapon station, the vehicle proved its capability. In 2023, the program achieved a milestone with the signing of a multibillion-złoty production contract, launching serial manufacturing for the Polish Army.

Capabilities & Features

The Borsuk is built for frontline infantry operations, combining a 30mm Mk44 Bushmaster II cannon, Spike-LR anti-tank missiles, and a 7.62mm coaxial machine gun. Its advanced fire-control systems allow stabilized engagements while moving, day or night.

Powered by an 850 hp MTU engine, the vehicle achieves road speeds up to 65 km/h and maintains full amphibious capability—an essential requirement for Poland’s river-dense geography. The hull uses modular armor, scalable from light amphibious protection to heavy battlefield packages, including the Zasłon-based active protection system.

With a crew of three and capacity for six dismount soldiers, the Borsuk integrates modern sensors, digital battlefield management tools, and enhanced mine-blast protection, making it NATO-interoperable and combat-credible.

Borsuk IFV Price

While the Borsuk IFV is not formally offered for export to the United States, its estimated program cost suggests a unit value between USD $10–$13 million, depending on armor configuration and APS integration. If exported in the future, pricing would likely vary based on turret type, protection level, and amphibious packages.
