RCH 155 Wheeled Self-Propelled Howitzer

The RCH 155 is a modern wheeled self-propelled artillery system designed for fast, precise, and mobile fire support. Built to meet the needs of high-tempo operations, it combines heavy firepower with rapid road mobility, making it well suited for NATO style expeditionary forces.

Program Background and Development

The RCH 155 is developed by Krauss-Maffei Wegmann, now part of KNDS Deutschland. It is based on the proven AGM 155 artillery module, also used on tracked platforms, and mounted on a Boxer 8×8 armored vehicle chassis. Germany leads the program, with Ukraine becoming the first operational customer during the ongoing conflict.

The system is designed to support shoot-and-scoot tactics, reducing exposure to counter-battery fire. Its fully automated turret allows the crew to operate without leaving the armored cabin.

Firepower and Combat Capabilities

At the core of the RCH 155 is a 155 mm L52 gun compatible with standard NATO ammunition. It can fire conventional, extended-range, and precision-guided rounds. With assisted projectiles, the system reaches ranges beyond 40 km.

An advanced digital fire control system supports multiple round simultaneous impact missions. The high rate of fire and quick deployment time give commanders flexible artillery support in fast-moving battles.

Mobility and Protection

Mounted on the Boxer 8×8, the RCH 155 offers high strategic and tactical mobility. It can move quickly on roads and keep pace with mechanized units. Armor protection covers small arms fire, shell splinters, and battlefield threats, while NBC protection is standard.

RCH 155 Price

The exact RCH 155 price in US dollars is not publicly disclosed. Estimates place unit costs in the multi-million dollar range, depending on configuration, support packages, and ammunition options.
