UAE Withdraws Counter-Terrorism Teams from Yemen
The United Arab Emirates has officially ended its counter-terrorism mission in Yemen, withdrawing the remaining specialized teams, the UAE Ministry of Defence confirmed December 30, 2025. The decision follows recent developments affecting the safety and operational effectiveness of ongoing missions.
Since joining the Arab Coalition in 2015, the UAE has coordinated with international partners to combat terrorist organizations and support Yemen’s stability. While the main military presence concluded in 2019 after completing planned missions, specialized counter-terrorism units remained to continue targeted operations.
In its statement, the Ministry of Defence emphasized that the withdrawal is part of a broader assessment of operational requirements and aligns with the UAE’s commitments to regional security. Emirates News Agency (WAM) reported that the UAE is coordinating with relevant partners to ensure the safe exit of personnel.
The ministry highlighted the sacrifices made by Emirati forces over the years in pursuit of counter-terrorism objectives. Officials noted that the withdrawal does not signal a reduction in the UAE’s broader support for security and stability in Yemen and the region.
The UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs reaffirmed its continued support for Saudi-led efforts in Yemen and clarified the role of Emirati forces within the coalition framework. The decision to withdraw reflects a focus on safety, operational effectiveness, and adherence to international coordination protocols.
