Reuters reported that NioCorp Developments has reached a preliminary agreement to provide Lockheed Martin with approximately 15 metric tons of scandium annually from its planned Elk Creek project in Nebraska, which is expected to begin production in 2028. For germanium, Lockheed is reportedly in discussions with Teck Resources and Canadian processor 5N Plus. Germanium is widely used in infrared optics, thermal imaging equipment, and electronic systems supporting modern military capabilities.
Lockheed Martin said it continually evaluates the global critical minerals supply chain to ensure access to materials that support customer missions, although it did not comment directly on specific negotiations.
